Parenting Classes

Cooperative Co-Parenting is designed to assist adults in understanding the difficulties children face during co-parent conflict and to meet their children's needs. This class meets the requirements set forth by the Virginia Beach Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court.

This course will empower parents to identify and address their children's needs by:

  • building an effective co-parenting relationship
  • separating their children's needs from their own
  • recognizing the effects of divorce, separation, or general conflict on their children
  • identifying and preventing potential problems
  • avoiding common behaviors which increase the pain and potential damage experienced by children during divorce, separation or intense conflict between co-parents
  • giving positive and reassuring messages to children throughout the process of rebuilding and healing the family unit.

You will learn:
  • how to maintain effective communication
  • potential problems and strategies to address them
  • the age related concerns and fears of children whose co- parents are divorcing or are experiencing intense conflict
  • to distinguish between conflict issues and co-parenting issues
  • how to provide reassurance to your child when discussing the divorce or conflict
  • how to avoid behaviors which cause pain and potential damage to your children
  • how to use co-parenting techniques to achieve positive outcomes
  • potential roadblocks to effective communication and ways to adapt as your children grow and family unit changes
  • step by step process for resolving conflict with a co-parent

A certificate of completion is issued at end of the course to each participant.
